Exercising Mindfulness at Greenport Pilates, Yoga & Wellness

Discover how Greenport Pilates, Yoga & Wellness helps improve health through mindfulness and exercise.

Greenport Pilates, Yoga & Wellness, located at 308 Front St., recently opened with a mission to enhance clients’ health and wellness through mindfulness and exercise.

A New Space for Wellness

In 2022, Michael and Sofia Antoniadis purchased the former bowling alley on Front St. They transformed it into a wellness center with three spacious studios, a store, and an art space featuring local artists’ work.

“Fitness is both physical and mental,” says Sofia, who lives full-time on the North Fork and has a family summer home in East Marion.

The Journey to Opening

Sofia started taking yoga classes a decade ago and, with Michael, developed the idea for the studio in 2020 after her favorite studio closed during the pandemic. Greenport Pilates, Yoga & Wellness offers both yoga and Pilates. Sofia believes in the balance of practicing both. “If you can do yoga twice a week and Pilates twice a week, you’ll maintain your balance and your health,” she says.

The Pilates Studio

The main Pilates studio features 12 reformers for group classes, equipped with color-coded weight springs, personal ballet bars, mats, and other essentials. With classes for various levels, everyone is welcome. Beginner classes include a review of positions and a combination of exercises to create the muscular exertion inherent in Pilates.

Private and Group Classes

There’s a private, two-reformer studio for more individualized coaching. At the back of the building, there’s a beautiful open studio for yoga classes, sound baths, and other activities. The studio has solid mahogany wood floors, tree branch chandeliers, color-changing ceiling lights, and closets full of equipment, creating a dream space for yoga enthusiasts.

Community and Connection

Jenny Rutkoski, who leads Vinyasa Yoga classes, loves the studio. “I am so happy to go into work,” Rutkoski says. “It’s such a beautiful space, and everyone is so welcoming and friendly. I cannot wait to get to know my students well and enjoy watching their growth.” Rutkoski is eager to connect with both visitors and locals, sharing a love for wellness.

Building Relationships

Sofia values the community aspect of Greenport. “One of the wonderful things about Greenport is that it’s a real community village,” she says. She enjoys helping clients find the right practice for them and building relationships within the community. The team is collecting ideas and feedback from the community to enhance their offerings.

Future Plans

Future plans include offering Tai Chi, ecstatic dancing, more sound baths, and a storytelling hour for kids. “I want the village of Greenport and the town of Southold to know that we’re here for them,” Sofia says. “Be patient with us and accept us, even though we’re new to the environment.”
