Women Admit to Illegal Oxycodone Distribution with N.J. Doctor

Conspiracy to Distribute Opioids Without Medical Reason

Two women from Paterson, New Jersey, have admitted to working with a Bergen County doctor to illegally prescribe thousands of oxycodone pills. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of New Jersey announced the guilty pleas on Thursday.

Guilty Pleas

Jasmine McGregor, 32, and Jhenelle Lewis, 35, pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to distribute oxycodone outside the usual medical practice and without a legitimate medical purpose. They admitted to working with Dr. Lisa Ferraro of Hillsdale, New Jersey, to prescribe opioids to individuals who were not legitimate patients.

Details of the Scheme

Federal prosecutors revealed that McGregor and Lewis assisted Dr. Ferraro in prescribing oxycodone to people who were never examined or questioned about their symptoms. This distribution took place over several years, with McGregor working from July 2022 to October 3, 2023, and Lewis from January 2019 to September 2023.

Prescription Details

During her time working with McGregor, Dr. Ferraro wrote prescriptions for 630 pills of 20mg oxycodone and approximately 11,410 pills of 30mg oxycodone. In collaboration with Lewis, Ferraro prescribed about 9,450 pills of 30mg oxycodone.

Ongoing Case and Sentencing

Dr. Ferraro has also been charged with the same offense, though her case is still ongoing. Sentencing hearings are scheduled for McGregor on November 20 and Lewis on December 9.
